Château La Sauvageonne
The vines are planted on hillsides, on this mineral and volcanic terroir, overlooking a wild and sensitive landscape. The energy of the surroundings is tangible and reflects in our wines.
The Ruffes are red and chocolate sedimentary rock that originated from the first era and are very rich in minerals such as iron, and bauxit, which gives this particular colour. Nearly dust on the surface which significantly limits the yield of the vines.
The vineyard is mainly composed of Syrah and Grenache Noir, king and queen of the terroir.
The estate has been committed to biodynamics since 2013.
• WINEMAKER'S NOTE •
The estate is located at the north-west of Montpellier, leaning on the Causse du Larzac, between 150 and 350 metres of height, on a 57-hectare area. We find two different soils, on one hand the "ruffes", a thin, filtering soil rich in minerals such as bauxite, iron, aluminium, and on the other hand sandstone and shale, deeper and broken, allowing the creation of a water reserve.
The plots are located at the centre north of the Hérault region. This climatic zone experiences large temperature ranges due to its distance from the sea and proximity to the Causse, which brings a freshness during summer nights, beneficial to a slow, progressive ripening of the berries.
